Over the years, I have developed a practice of creating invocations for most of my paintings when they are complete. Visual art, music, and writing are all interwoven threads of my creative wheelhouse, and I always have an eye toward how to pattern them just so in the tapestry of my life's work. I also love how, even though a picture paints a thousand words, reading and writing prayerful poetry inspired by a specific artwork carries the colors and lines on canvas to even greater depths within my heart. They are both alive, paintings and words, complete unto themselves; and yet, together they strike a winning combination to entrance the mind in new and powerful ways.
I have begun sharing these art invocations with folks at public and private events as guided meditations to help facilitate community connection through group prayer, and to promote the notion that we can use art as a tool for personal development and transformation. I encourage people to establish a dynamic relationship with their art through the use of invocation, song, and dance. We have so many different senses to explore so many realms of consciousness, and I dare say use them! Find as many ways as possible to explore one concept, and see just how far that takes you into knowing yourself and the world more fully.
Click on any image below to see its invocation. Each Art Invocation (with its respective imagery) is available as a laminated Altar Card in my Treasures shop page, just click here. If you feel inspired to get one, I invite you to memorize the invocation that goes with the artwork you have chosen, so that you may recite it out loud as you gaze at the art, as an active meditation. You can also, of course, just read the invocation silently or aloud, by yourself or with friends. These are all exercises that have been performed by spiritual practitioners the world over for thousands of years to aid one's development of consciousness, and can have profound effects on the mind.
